In this case they will stick and will not work as freely anymore. Same thing applies for dust in the padlock. If this happens, you can use a machine oil (silicone or Teflon bases lubricant) which you have to apply for the keyhole and the space around the area where the shackle goes into the padlock. Try to push the shackle a bit more into the padlock and try to insert they key into the keyhole. This combination of motion and lubricant should help to unstick the inner parts of the padlock. If this still does not work very well, try to soak the padlock in the lubricant.
